When Alyssa joined the KDHRC team, she was excited to contribute to public health research that makes a positive impact on people’s lives.

After earning bachelor’s degrees in Public Health and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Iowa, Alyssa used her passion to help others improve their health by working as a health coach and personal trainer while completing her master’s degree in Health and Wellness Education.

After moving to North Carolina, Alyssa worked as a Lead Public Health Educator where she made a meaningful impact on low-resource families and at-risk youth. She shared her expertise with diverse audiences, including youth, school officials, and medical professionals, educating them on available resources and health topics including physical activity, diabetes prevention, food security, and tobacco use prevention. Alyssa also specialized in conducting assessments, creating surveys, facilitating focus groups, and evaluating both quantitative and quantitative data. Leading these projects solidified her passion for public health research.

When she is not working, you can find her working out with her husband, playing board games with friends, rollerblading by the beach, reading thriller novels while drinking sparkling water, or cooking new recipes over FaceTime with her mom.
